Last post was about liberal snowflake, wussy dad and his angst over his "intelligent, hard-working, responsible 24 year-old daughter" having a firearm in the house for her protection. As I noted there, if Dad was a dad, she would not have to be so worried.
Now - on to Dear Amy's responses:
According to my research, possessing hollow point bullets is illegal in
11 states; is it legal in your state to own this sort of exploding
ammunition?
Damn - I would not have thought anyone could get dumber and more hysterical than dad. No wonder he wrote to Amy...she wins! What the hell is "exploding ammunition"? Shouldn't there be a law that possessing a website where you are giving advice and expounding authoritatively on a topic, you have to know something about it. If you don't know shit, then pass on the question! Oh, wait - there are not enough courts and jails for that. This was the best you could offer this poor misguided man - was more BS, confusion and misinformation?
According to this study, there are more guns, but concentrated in fewer households. Why must your household be one of them?
Why must his daughter live in fear? Why is an intelligent, hard-working, responsible woman all of a sudden a threat? Any data on the rates of home invasion and other crime? I do not need to ask why she feels that her "father" cannot protect her. And I won't hazard a guess at her family-related trauma history.
His household does not have to be one. Hopefully his daughter will move out and find her own place where she can live as the adult she is.
Where did your daughter get this weapon and ammunition? Has she received
any safety training or certification? (Accidental gun death is a
substantial risk of owning a gun.) Is she perhaps engaged in another
activity outside of your household that exposes her to increased risks
and makes her believe she needs to have a weapon?
If dad weren't a hoplophobe and a wimp, perhaps he could teach her. Perhaps she has - and if she has what other excuse will you think up for disowning her? Owning a car is a real risk for accidental automobile-related death - a much more prevalent event. Since dad is clearly and irrationally afraid of guns, I suspect this is not a discussion they could have as two adults (since he would be the only one) and it would not make a difference to dad if she were trained.
I
have news for you: A locked bedroom door is no match for this weaponry;
as I write this, just five days ago a father in South Carolina
tragically shot and killed his own 23-year-old daughter through a closed
door -- when he mistook her for an intruder.
So, here we are again - Dad is either lying about his daughter's
intelligence, work ethic and responsibility or he is confused and stupid. Why in the world would he need to protect himself from his
paragon-of-excellence daughter just because she is a hard gun owner.
I agree with your ultimatum; I also weep that there is yet another (likely unsafe) gun owner in this country.
Please girl, move out of this man's house.
Look - I know people who write columns like this and I also know that they often write their own questions so they can answer them to forward whatever their agenda is. I have to hope that is the case here, that Amy wanted to address this issue from her own ideological perspective so she created this exchange to do so. I can only hope that dad is not this stupid. If he is real, then he knew the answer he would get and was merely looking for confirmatory rhetoric.
I say again - young female Jedi - get thee hence from this man's house.
